Mushroom Foray (FULL)

Dr. Fred Rhoades and his colleagues will lead us on a forest walk in search of various types of fungi that can be found in our four nature preserves. This beloved autumn tradition is a fun, enlightening exploration of the ecological importance and significance of the island’s mushrooms. In 2024, 85 species were identified! We look forward to what this year will bring.

We will meet at the Otto Preserve on Saturday, October 18th at 9:30AM. Small groups will then branch off to each of the four preserves led by an LIHT volunteer and a mushroom identifier. Weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear are recommended. Feel free to bring a small basket or paper bag for collecting samples.

All samples will be brought back to the Resource Center at the Otto Preserve, identified, and laid out for display. Snacks and coffee will be provided!

This event is at capacity. Please join us at our next event!
